April 12, Friday in Memes #8

The Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop's purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This Week's Book Blogger Hop Question:
When reading a series, do you re-read the previous book/s before reading the newly released book? (submitted by Angelica @ Paperback Princess)
My Answer:
I keep it as a rule not to pick up series until all books are published. I am very bad at waiting)) So I guess I am reading books from the start, only as a whole series.

Book Beginnings of Fridays hosted by Gillion Dumas of Rose City Reader. A weekly meme where readers share the first sentence of the book they are reading and say what they think.
The Friday 56 hosted by Freda's Voice. Join us every Friday and share an excerpt from a book you’ve been reading.

My Book Beginnings:
Late in the winter of my seventeenth year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent quite a lot of time in bed, read the same book over and over, ate infrequently, and devoted quite a bit of my abundant free time to thinking about death.
Goodreads
My 56:
Only when I got parallel to them did I see Isaac's face. Tears streamed down his reddened cheeks in a continual flow, his face a taut mask of pain. He stared at the screen, not even glancing at me, and howled, all the while pounding away at his controller. "How are you, Hazel?" asked Augustus.
Outline: This is going to be my last try with John Green. I really do not enjoy his books. I just DNFed Will Grayson, Will Grayson, but I have already checked this one from the library, so I will give it try and if it does not go well I am finished with John Green.

  1. For BBH, that's a very good idea! I say that for tv shows but then I never wait so I probably won't be able to wait for the entire series for books...

    1. yes it is a difficult choice, but still re-reading a book/re-watching a season just to be able to continue with the series is kind of overkill for me))

  2. Ha! I love that rule to wait until series are complete. That's a great idea! It's so hard to wait!

  3. I feel you because I'm very bad at waiting too but I always fall into the trap of reading the sequel and then having to wait 1-2 years for the next one.....it's a struggle

    1. that is the point - you still wait; but if the the 1st book is so good I would kill for a sequel)))

  4. I've still not read The Fault in Our Stars - but I can see it on my shelf calling me... sounds great!

  5. I can wait if it's a trilogy or a shorter series, but I read some series that are into high double digits and don't have a stopping point.

As for TFIOS, I enjoyed it, but I haven't liked everything John Green has written.

    1. The same so far here, TFIOS is good, but I am still not sure about the rest of his books.

  7. I actually do not read series books.

I haven't read your featured book yet. I heard it was good, though.

Thanks for coming by my blog earlier. Bette Lee Crosby writes wonderful books...my favorite of hers is THE TWELFTH CHILD. Let me know if you give her a try.

  8. I'm not a fan of John Green's books either. He is interesting as a person though. This week I am featuring The Curse of the Silver Pharaoh by Pip Ballantine and Tee Morris. Happy reading!

  10. I love John Green. I started with Looking for Alaska and worked my way through all of his books. I loved The Fault in Our Stars, though I don't think it is his best. I'd try Looking for Alaska before you completely abandon him. My review and quotes for SHOUT

    1. Looking for Alaska was actually my first John Green book and, unfortunately, I was not impressed. I was listening to it, so maybe his books should be read, not listened.

  11. I wish I was more like you and waited until the whole series was out to start reading it. I've been trying to do that more lately, but there's just some authors that I have to read their books as soon as they're released. Hope you have a great weekend! :)

  12. I wish I had the patience to wait until all the books are out hahaha. You're so good!

    1. It is because I cannot stand all the hype. So I do not pick up a book when it is all around, because I am full of spoilers and expectations, so I wait till I forget, and then the series are completed)))

  13. I remember this book being all the rage a few years ago. It's the kind of story that has staying power.

  15. I've never been able to get into John Green's books. I've tried, but... I guess he's just not for me.

  16. You are very disciplined to wait for a series to finish. I might be able to wait for a trilogy... Nope, no willpower when it comes to books.

  17. Hope you'll get on better with this one. I've not read his works, but people do seem to either love them or hate them.

    1. I would not hate him, but just accept, that this is not my author.

  19. On the Book Blog Hop - I used to have the same rule. The only reason I decided to walk on the dark side was to see if I could indeed follow along. For the most part, I could. But, I have encountered some that really do require you to read the previous ones. This led to my new strategy.

On My Book Beginnings - Man...the first line caught my attention.
